"Stalker" is Eighth Tower's tribute to the cinematic masterpiece "Stalker" (1979) by Russian director Andrej Tarkowskij. Tarkowskij 's second science fiction film after Solaris, "Stalker" is based on a novel by the Strugackij brothers, Arkadij and Boris, renowned authors of Soviet science fiction. The novel, titled "Roadside Picnic," was released in 1971. With this project Eighth Tower Records, musicians and writers involved, pay passionate homage to this masterpiece of science fiction cinema and, more broadly, the history of cinema.

Cult Of Light "The Luminous Spiral" (CD, Zazen Sounds, 2024)

Cult Of Light is the new collaborative project by Davide Del Col and Ascanio Borga. Inspired by ancient cults, folk horror tales and exploration expeditions, the music evokes long forgotten rituals and aims towards uncharted territories where mysterious ancestral forces are still alive and well. The debut album, “The Luminous Spiral” consists in 9 tracks of mesmerizing dark electronics and ever-evolving flux of sonic matter that represent a sonic ritual with tribal and spiritual overtones. Both Davide and Ascanio are reference figures in Italy in the industrial ambient and experimental electronic scene. Davide Del Col is an electronic musician and drummer. His many projects include Antikatechon, We Promise to Betray (with Giuseppe Verticchio/Nimh), Molnija Aura (with Andrea Marutti), Echran (with Fabio Volpi), Ornament. His music was published in many specialzed labels like Afe, Ebria, Small Voices, A Silent Place, Silentes, Oktagön. Ascanio Borga is a electronic musician and guitarist. He released several solo albums with Afe Records and his label Sonic Boundaries. He also collaborated with several musicians in the italian experimental, noise and avant rock scene, like Cristiano Luciani (Cris X), Paolo Taballione (Carillon Del Dolore, Christian Death, Gronge) e Tiziana Lo Conte (Gronge, Roseluxx).

Antikatechon: "Sublime Ascension" CD reviewed on "Onda Rock"

Antikatechon, alias Davide Del Col, continua a pubblicare sull'etichetta polacca Heerwegen Tod Production, specializzata in black metal, dark-ambient, industrial e noise.

"Sublime Ascension" raccoglie due lunghe tracce in cui il musicista italiano mostra il lato più etereo e rituale della sua musica: i ventisei minuti della traccia che dà il titolo all'album sono un crescendo di ombre e nebbia, tra lente oscillazioni sul lato oscuro della Luna e strati di rumore che seminano un drone circolare; intorno alla boa dei dieci minuti, il brano cambia passo e i timbri soavi di uno strumento angelico preludono alla coralità post-shoegaze della parte centrale, prima della solennità liturgica del gran finale.

"The Sacred Vortex" comincia con una ragnatela di rumori ancora più oscuri di quelli ascoltati nel brano precedente. Una melodia staziante si perde in un labirinto di feedback senza riuscire a trovare la via d'uscita. Poco prima del passaggio a nove minuti la chitarra elettrica smette di arrotolarsi su se stessa e si trasforma in un sintetizzatore stellare: l'onda generata dà vita a un drone abbagliante che si nutre di ogna forma di luce prima di eclissarsi e di lasciare in sotofondo solo i tamburi della notte.

Il cd è stato masterizzato da Giuseppe Verticchio, alias Nimh.

Antikatechon: "Sublime Ascension" CD reviewed on "Suffissocore"

Davide Del Col torna con due tracce - masterizzate da Giuseppe Verticchio che si è occupato anche dell’artwork - che invocano un’ascesa solenne, al limite del sacro, e si legano in maniera forte ad altri due lavori di grande spessore come ‘Privilegium Martyrii’ e ‘I Feel Nothing But Repulsion’. Nel primo caso perché, soprattutto nella title track, si percepisce un ritorno alle origini, al motivo per cui lo sperimentatore e manipolatore sonoro si è rivolto alla musica dark ambient e l’ha scelta come strumento espressivo. Nel secondo caso – il vortice a cui si fa riferimento potrebbe trovare facile condivisione da parte di tutti coloro che nutrono forme di disagio nel quotidiano - ho trovato similitudini a livello di mixaggio, con una serie di percussioni marziali che danno il senso del ritmo durante l’ascolto. In entrambi gli episodi la durata è pari ad oltre ventisei minuti e chi si avvicina all’opera è destinato ad essere trasportato in un’altra dimensione. Una dimensione glaciale che può essere sognante e astratta, eppure estremamente concreta. Quella di ‘Sublime Ascension’ è infatti una dark ambient in grado di lasciare lividi e la portata del messaggio di Antikatechon è tale che sarebbe davvero auspicabile una trasposizione dal vivo, sia nei live club che siamo abituati a frequentare sia a complemento di installazioni sonore in strutture museali a carattere contemporaneo.
