Background/Info: This album is a collaboration between French artist Philippe Blache (Day Before Us) and Italian artist Davide Del Col (Antikatechon). They both were label mates on Rage In Eden Records and now joined hands together with Heerwegen Tod to unleash this opus featuring nine tracks.
Content: This album is made of dark reverie, a kind of imaginary sound universe composed with numerous instruments and noise sources. From dark electronic sound waves to field recordings and guitar effects played by guest musician Giuseppe Verticchio (Nimh), the work takes us away on a mysterious voyage. Organ sounds are reinforcing the mystery hanging over the work while delicate piano arrangements inject a somewhat classical and subtle touch. French spoken vocals have been added to a few tracks.
+ + + : “Complaintes Au Bord D’Un Autre Monde” is a dark title reflecting sadness and despair. These feelings have been perfectly reproduced by the dark reverie of the composition. Songs sometimes feel like a dark caress, created by a delicate touch of piano play and guitar. Some passages are however heavier, this way creating confusion. The album also has a strong visual appeal, which reaches its peak at “Sur Des Rivages Taciturnes”.
- - - : The song structure reveals a slow progression and even if there are a few heavier passages, I’m missing a true dark apotheosis, which wasn’t maybe the goal of both protagonists.
Conclusion: Day Before Us & Antikatechon accomplished a dark sonic voyage, which sounds like reflecting desperate souls.
